Our Mission

The Board

Megan Petersen

PRESIDENT

  • Megan Petersen found rollerblading at a pivotal moment in her life, using the sport as a path toward healing and community connection. Her passion for skating grew into a lifelong commitment to supporting and uplifting others, especially women in action sports. Megan co-founded The Bladies, a global community for female skaters, and has since partnered with leading skate brands to create skates specifically designed for women. With deep roots in the rollerblading world and a vision for inclusive spaces, Megan is now focused on helping communities—like ours—build skateparks where everyone can discover the joy, growth, and belonging that skating provides.

Jason Sawyer

VICE PRESIDENT

  • Jason Sawyer of Morton, Washington, is one of two principals at SML (Simple Modern Living), a creative studio that designs furniture, fabric and upholstered items, and household goods from local and sustainably-sourced materials. He holds a BA in Architecture from the University of Washington, and works with materials including wood, concrete, and metal. A builder and entrepreneur at heart, he supports all who strive for a well-designed and meaningful life that allows time for creativity, ingenuity, and civic engagement. He’s currently serving on the Morton City Council. He goes by “Sawyer” — so don’t call him Jason!

Adrienne Manson

TREASURER

  • Adrienne Manson, is a local woman born in the PNW, of mixed Native American and European descent. She enjoys quad roller skating and in-line roller blading since a young age making skating rinks in her parents garage complete with strobe lights and loud music. Never really able to balance on a skateboard, she enjoys watching the sport. Always making up new tricks and ways to ride a huffy bike as a kid, now with teenagers of her own. Middle teen, Kiowa, is a skateboarder and she loves to take him places to do public tricks whenever possible. Adrienne has a long history of involvement with local youth groups, Native American cultural groups, and working with at-risk youth from Snohomish County, King, Pierce counties- and hopes for more with Lewis County, as well as while living on the Navajo Nation from 2009-2016 and being a traveling dancer in pow wows nationally. Supporting, collaborating and planning with MASA to build a dedicated local skate and action sports park in the Morton and surrounding areas supports her aspirations to keep kids and the community engaged in positive, safe and healthy activities as well as interacting in a good way with one another to better our communities.

Sara Smiley

SECRETARY

  • A lifelong Washingtonian, Sara loves being in east Lewis County, and her desire to foster an open and inclusive rural community is what led her to be part of MASA.

MASA’s ultimate dream is to build a skate park right here in Morton. This project is so much more than just a place to skate; it's about building community. A skate park will be a safe, accessible, and inclusive hub for youth and adults, offering a much-needed outlet for fun and a place for social gatherings. It's a concrete step towards making Sara’s vision for Morton a reality: a rural community where everyone can find their niche and feel like they belong.

Kiowa Yazzie

COMMITTEE CHAIR

  • I am a skater and the lead guitarist in an emo inspired band called Tired Subscription. Skating is a huge part of my life, and I try to get on my board whenever I can. I love everything about the sport—the creativity, the community, and the freedom it gives. That’s why I'm passionate about helping bring a skatepark to Morton, Washington. I want to create a space where people can come together, skate, and grow. Whether I’m playing music or skating, I put my heart into what I love.

Doug Taylor

COMMITTEE CHAIR

  • With over a decade of experience as a snowboard coach at White Pass and a lifelong love of skateboarding, I’m passionate about helping people of all ages discover the joy of alternative sports. As a parent to a 12-year-old daughter who thrives outdoors, I’m driven to create more spaces—like pumptracks and freestyle parks—that give kids and families more opportunities to play, ride, and stay active together on boards, scoots, bikes, and blades.
